Dennis Roddam Artist

Saltburn Artist Spotlight: Dennis Roddam

I have lived in the North East since childhood, and spent a lot of my youth years rambling the North East moors and coastline. Living in the area, I am fortunate in that I can spend a lot of my time in this wonderful countryside.

My work varies in style and medium, and I adapt the medium to suit the subject – for example focussing on a strong design factor when working on handprinted tiles and ceramics, lino prints and woodcuts. Currently I am spending even more time in my ceramic studio in Saltburn, creating handmade bowls, plates and vases.

My wildlife art attempts to depict the smaller wonders in the natural world that may be overlooked, rather than the large panoramic views of the area.

Observation of the natural world forms the basis of my ceramic design. For the decorative images, my original art designs are transferred to my handmade ceramics eg bowls, plates and vases. These are all fired to completion in my Saltburn studio.

Currently, many items are for sale – available directly from myself, and also from local galleries in the greater North East area.

As well as exhibiting widely in the local area, my work has been regularly accepted for the National Exhibition of Wildlife Artists, (where I have won the Birds Birds Birds Gallery award) I have had work accepted for the Artist & Leisure Painter Patchings Exhibition, (winning the prestigious David & Charles Award) and also qualified as a finalist in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.
