Jim wrote ‘A Town in Time’ as part of his studies – it is a carefully researched portrait of Saltburn-by-the-Sea from its pre-historic beginnings to its Edwardian heyday; from Iron Age to the age of iron.

Although written as an examined text, it reads as a simple narrative and is full of facts and figures, people and places, incidents and incidentals.

It may not be the definitive history of the town but it is definitely a good place to start.

Jim’s thesis appears, more or less, as it was first written; a personal investigation into the place he calls home and the private achievement of a lad who left school at the age of 15.
